FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Syringe pumps
| When do I need the starter module and when do I need the base module? |
If you want to dose up to 13 fluid streams you need the starter module.
If you want to dose more than 13 fluid streams you need the base module.
| If I want to dose only one fluid stream do I need a starter module and a single module? |
No, then you only need a starter module because one dosing unit is already integrated. |
| Can I expand the system easily? |
Yes, you can use up to 32 dosing units in one system. |
| Which syringes do I have to use? |
You can use all analysis syringes with diameters between 6 and 30 mm. |
| Which modules do I need if I want to dose 4 fluid streams? |
The optimal arrangement is: one starter module, one double module and one single module. |
| Can I dose 2 fluid streams with one drive? |
Yes. The single-drive type of the double module gives the possibility to drive 2 syringes with one actuator unit. |
| Do I have to use the modules at one place or can I separate them? |
You can also arrange the modules separately and connect them by an Interconnect-Cable. It is available with length of 1, 2 and 5 metre. |
| Are the valves standard equipment? |
The valves are optional. When ordering neMESYS modules you can decide whether it is with or without valve. |
| How was the pulsation characteristic measured? |
It was measured by use of a special flow sensor at the Institute for Physical High Technology (IPHT) in Jena. Various systems were evaluated in comparison with each other. The tests showed that in pulsation characteristics no other syringe pump system is comparable with the systems ceDOSYS and neMESYS.
| Which flow rates (minimal, maximal) can be generated? |
Depending on the size of syringe flow rates between 0,010 nl/s and 2,469 ml/s are possible.
| Which pressures can be generated (max.)? |
The pressure is limited by the max. pressure of the syringe. At high pressures of the application the syringe plunger can get leaky. |
| Which materials exposed to contact with the medium are there in the device? For which chemicals is it suitable/not suitable? |
This is dependent on the expendables which the user is working with (syringes, tubes, fittings, …) . The only part of the device exposed to contact with the medium is the valve (body PEEK, membrane PTFE, seals Perfluor). Other materials are available on request. |
| Is it possible to temper the pumped media? |
This can be realized by heating the syringes. There is no standard solution available because of the manifold different requirements. Please contact our engineers to talk about your special application. |
| Can I generate a continuous flow with this systems? |
Yes, by use of two drive units which work either-way and are switched by valves. When switching the valves there will be a small volume/pressure pulse. For this problem cetoni is working on a better solution. |
| Can I drive several syringes (possibly different size) with one unit? |
Yes, e.g. by use of a starter module with double syringe holder or by use of the single drive option of the double module. In this both syringes are operated simultaneously by one drive. |
| Can I use plastic syringes? |
In principle yes, but you wont reach the nearly pulsation free performance like using glas syringes. |
